Every goal should have several different options to attain successful completion. Always keep those wheels in motion by thinking of smarter and easier ways to complete goals ahead of schedule. Goals are not an afterthought. Strategizing on how to complete goals ahead of schedule should be a constant endeavor. Those strategies need to be developed into milestones and tracked rigorously. These milestones may change frequently to assist you in completing your primary goals.
One of my goals was to be promoted once every two years. This goal was different from other goals because it had a huge dependency on management. One of my rules when establishing goals is to avoid dependencies whenever possible, but there are exceptions. With this goal, I had no choice, I had plenty of back-ups:
- Completed all work-related tasks/projects that were established by management ahead of schedule.
- Designed and complete at least two new high-visibility projects that were outside the scope of my current job responsibilities.
- Continuously put in extra effort and time to assist other areas of the organization. Made sure I was constantly on management’s radar.
- Met with management at least twice a year to strategize on making improvements throughout the organization and gauge performance.
- Maintained key relationships.
Always improve your odds by having multiple options for successful goal completion.
