Stop brushing aside or masking negative emotions. When you have a re-occurring issue – confront it. Keep it in the forefront and use that pent-up frustration to motivate yourself to light a fire under your butt.
What’s the point of telling yourself: there, there…it’s ok or tomorrow will be a brighter day unless those words hold some weight? Right now, those words are meaningless. Brushing negativity aside just prolongs your agony and the inevitable outcome of having yet another bad hair day. Whatever the situation, it will only rear its ugly head over and over again. Below is an example of how to transform negativity into positive results:
Maybe your boss is not very people-oriented and is disrespectful towards you. At least once a week you go home in a foul mood. Unfortunately, he is your boss and you have to interact with him. Typically, you go to bed depressed and restless, which severely impacts the quality of your sleep, but when you wake up the next morning you pretend like yesterday’s events never happened – you tell yourself: today is a new day – woohoo I’m going to remain positive.
You perform at a superior level and go out of your way to try and please your boss – hoping that he will eventually change, but all to no avail. Instead of wasting cycles wondering whether or not he will, strategize to fix your predicament. Set goals to sharpen your skills, update your resume and actively look for new employment and eventually get the heck out of Dodge.
